Marc Corbeels is a Senior Scientist at CIRAD (French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development), currently seconded to the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Nairobi, Kenya. He is a systems agronomist with over 25 years of research experience across sub-Saharan Africa and Latin America.Trained as an agricultural engineer in Belgium, he completed a PhD in Agronomy at Ghent University and later earned his HDR (accreditation to supervise research) from the University of Montpellier. His career has included long-term scientific postings at CSIRO (Australia), Embrapa (Brazil), TSBF-CIAT (Zimbabwe), CIMMYT (Kenya), and academic and research positions in Morocco and Ethiopia.
Marc’s work focuses on sustainable intensification, agroecology, soil fertility management, and the design and evaluation of resilient cropping systems for smallholder farmers. Over the years, he has led and contributed to major international research programs, including the Horizon Europe CANALLS project on agroecological transitions, and has published more than 140 scientific papers.
