Gebreyes Million

Presentation

Million Gebreyes is a Social Scientist in the Livestock, Climate, and Environment Program at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). He earned his PhD from the Institute of Geography at the University of Bonn, Germany, where he also served as a postdoctoral fellow, researching sustainability options within the water-energy-food nexus in Ethiopia’s Blue Nile mountains. Using a political ecology lens, his work examines power asymmetries in large-scale water infrastructure development, with a focus on the interactions between state actors and citizens.

Since 2022, Million has been working at ILRI as a social scientist, concentrating on the scaling of agricultural innovations across initiatives, science programs, and bilateral projects. His research interests include farming systems analysis, scaling of agricultural innovations, ICT and media for last-mile innovation delivery, process documentation, seed systems commercialization, and systems change.

What I can bring to this network ?

I bring a combination of skill sets and social capital to the network. From a skills perspective, I contribute expertise in applying a critical social science lens to systems science and scaling science, particularly in the context of systems innovation. From a social capital standpoint, I offer strong linkages with CGIAR science programs and national stakeholders in Ethiopia.

What I seek in this network ?

I seek opportunities within this network for professional exchange in systems science, particularly in innovation development and scaling. I am also interested in co-supervising and training graduate students. Additionally, I hope to collaborate on joint resource mobilization efforts for systems science research.
