ASSESS approach

System assessment means to compare the performances and impacts of a system with another system or with a target, using a set of indicators representing the expectations of inter-concerned actors such as the farm household and of the stakeholders who benefit from or are impacted by the system as agro-dealers, environmental agency and local community. Compared to system analysis, system assessment does not aim to understand how the system functions but how it performs as a whole in interaction with its environment, how different indicators behave under different situations and what are the main trade-offs and synergies that can be respectively avoided or exploited.
