Systems Science

Systems Science is an interdisciplinary approach used to investigate interactions and dynamics within systems, including the trade-offs between objectives related to resilience and sustainability of human and natural systems. Relationships between systems actors and stakeholders, structural barriers, and socio-economic factors are also critical to consider in impact pathways and innovation process. Furthermore, the Systems Science approach of analysing interactions across time and spatial scales is necessary for developing transformative pathways within the context of global change. Systems Science encompasses analysis, assessment, and design and it uses concepts, approaches, methods and tools not only useful for research (i.e. the production of knowledge) but also for innovation, for policy, for education and for interaction with society at large.
